EMS Chest tubes in EMS? Maybe we should stick with what we know here. What do you think? Is your agency doing them or thinking about it?

    The Question is, does the use of chest tubes prehospital make sense. A tension pneumothorax is easy to treat by needle decompression. And why to place a drainage at a normal Pneu or a haematopneu. The mayor problem of haematopneus is the Bleeding, not the pressure. If i decompress this one the Patient will loose more blood. Also placing a chest Tube needs about five to ten minutes – Golden hour of Trauma?!
    So I think chest tubes only make sense in areas with long Transport duration…
